About one in four adults (23 %) reported consuming vegetables less than once a day. 47% of MS adults reported consuming fruit less than once a day (BRFSS 2021), making Mississippi a state with one of the lowest rates of fruit and vegetable consumption in the country.

As of 2021, nearly 1 million adult Mississippians (44%) had hypertension (high blood pressure), which is 36% higher than the US national average.  

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program

In 2020, seven of the ten leading causes of death in Mississippi were due to chronic health conditions. How we manage these conditions on a daily basis greatly influences the severity of our symptoms and overall quality of life. Our Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) helps individuals and their caregivers take control of their lives for the better.

This workshop offers helpful techniques to manage the symptoms of chronic conditions, such as fatigue, pain, sleeplessness, shortness of breath and stress, alongside emotional challenges like depression, anger, fear, and frustration.
