Public Health

Learn which issues are of greatest concern to the health of Mississippians, and link your efforts with existing work.

The State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) helps groups and individuals from multiple sectors to work on a common set of issues in order to improve the health of Mississippians. Public health professionals can use the State Health Assessment (SHA) or SHIP to determine which issues are of greatest concern to the health of Mississippians. You can read a summary of the SHA/SHIP report, or in full here.

Focus on

Check out the four assessment tools from the Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) process, which provide an examination of the health issues affecting Mississippians.

Get Involved

Share successes you are having in existing work of the four priority areas. Even if you haven’t been part of the SHIP process, we want to help promote the good work that is happening across Mississippi.

National Public Health Week

Public health workers help make healthy living simple and attainable for everyone. With assistance from the Mississippi State Departments of Health and Mental Health, we featured some Mississippians doing that hard work to help you, your families, and communities.
